The Irish Premier Division continues on Wednesday as bottom-dwellers Dundalk takes on Sligo Rovers at Oriel Park.

Bottom-of-the-table Dundalk return to home comforts on Wednesday after another defeat on their travels at Shelbourne last Friday. Jon Daly´s side now find themselves at the foot of the division, with only 16 points picked up from 20 games played this season. 

While Dundalk have struggled badly in away fixtures - the Lilywhites have lost eight and won just one of their 11 road games played since the start of the season - their home record is much better. 

At Oriel Park, Dundalk remain unbeaten in their last seven outings, although five of those matches did finish deadlocked. Tough to beat and strong in defence at this venue, the Lilywhites kept clean sheets in each of their last seven home fixtures. Remarkably, just three goals were scored in those matches with five games finishing goalless. 

Visiting Sligo make the trip to Dundalk looking to bounce back from a 4:1 defeat at Waterford last week. The Bit O'Red had collected back-to-back victories against Shelbourne (2:1) and Drogheda Utd (2:1) before slipping up last time out.

Currently sixth in the division, nine points clear of Dundalk, the Rovers have struggled to find much away form in recent weeks. John Russell´s side lost four and won just one of their lastr seven away fixtures. 

Sligo claimed a stunning 5:0 win on their last visit to this venue in March, but since then Dundalk kept clean sheets in each of their next seven home fixtures. 

A tough one to call, the under 2.5 goal selection seems obvious given Dundalk´s recent home matches, however, with Sligo seeing over 2.5 netted in their last five fixtures, that selection is perhaps best avoided.

Instead, I´m backing Dundalk to avoid defeat, with a low-scoring draw my expected outcome for this Premier Division contest.
