Burnley vs Nottingham Forest prediction 19.05.2024

On Sunday afternoon, in the last round of the Premier League, one of the matchups where teams have nothing to gain is between Burnley and Nottingham. 

After dominantly securing promotion last season, many football pundits expected a lot from Burnley this year. Even though they spent a lot of money, they focused on young players, and that might have been a mistake. The Clarets were officially relegated after the previous game, as they are now in 19th place with 24 points, five away from 17th-placed Nottingham.

Last year, Nottingham barely secured survival, finishing 16th, four points away from the danger zone. This year, they had a terrible season, but luckily for them, Sheffield, Burnley and Luton had an even worse one, and the Forest managed to survive. Right now, they are 17th with a three-point advantage but with a much better goal difference than Luton, and it is almost impossible for them to end up 18th. 

Burnley vs Nottingham pick: Over 2.5 goals

Lately, both teams have played mostly high-scoring games. Burnley were over 2.5 goals in three of the last four matches, and Nottingham were easily over 2.5 goals in back-to-back matches against Sheffield United and Chelsea, with 4.5 goals per game! We can see a similar trend for both teams, but that shouldn't surprise us because that often happens in the last rounds of the season. 

Additionally, both teams have been truly bad defensively throughout the season, allowing 2.05 per game (Burnely) and 1.8 (Nottingham). 

Considering all the above, we believe an over 2.5 goals bet is the safest option for this Premier League tie.
