The hosts secured their place in the play-offs via the Nations League route following a disappointing qualifying phase. A dismal qualifying campaign saw Bosnia and Herzegovina finishing fifth out of six in their group after  suffering seven defeats in ten matches. Among their setbacks were a heavy 4-1 defeat to Luxembourg and a humiliating 5-0 loss at home to Portugal.

Although they began their campaign with a promising 3-0 victory over Iceland, Bosnia´s form dipped dramatically with wins against Liechtenstein the only other high point of their campaign. 

Coming into this vital playoff, B&H have lost seven of their last nine matches including three of their last four on home soil. Luxembourg and Slovakia claimed away wins when visiting Zenica last last year.

Ukraine come into this first-leg with a much better run of form under their belt. Sergei Rebrov´s side have lost just two of their last ten matches while they have claimed road victories in Malta, North Macedonia and Armenia since last September. 

Missing out on automatic qualification after finishing third in their qualifying section, behind Italy on the H2H record only, Ukraine will have been hugely disappointed not to have already booked their place in Germany. With a potential final against Israel or Iceland, Rebrov´s men look likely to claim a second qualification opportunity.

Given Bosnia´s dreadful form, the Ukrainians look to offer some decent value to win on Thursday. I'm backing Rebrov´s men to claim a first-leg advantage in Zenica with the visitors expected to score at least two goals.
