Once a stable Ligue 1 team, Bordeaux were relegated in the 2021/22 season and, due to financial problems, should have been demoted to the third tier. However, a few days before the start of the last season, the federation accepted their reconstruction plan and allowed them to compete in Ligue 2. The popular Girondins finished the season 3rd, just three points from the promotion. This season, even though they were considered to be one of the favorites to go up, the Girondins are 13th with 25 points, much closer to relegation spots than the promotion ones.

After a 3:1 vs Valenciennes, coach Albert Riera spoke to the media. He said they have to do better and wasn't happy with the team despite winning the game. "We lacked rhythm in the first half. We have to play faster," the coach added.
The club decided to sell central defender Stian Gregersen, and he will leave the club after the game vs Angers and join Atlanta United for a fee of around 2 million euros. The 28-year-old defender started in 57% of Bordeaux's games and was an important part of the rotation.
