A crucial fixture in the fight to avoid Bundesliga relegation takes place at Vonovia Ruhrstadion this weekend as Bochum hosts Darmstadt on Sunday.

Bottom of the Bundesliga with only 13 points picked up from 26 matches, Darmstadt look increasingly likely to return to Bundesliga II at the end of the season. Winless in 19 league matches, Sunday´s visitors to the Vonovia Ruhrstadion find themselves 12 points short of safety and six points behind Mainz, who currently occupy the Bundesgliga relegation playoff spot. 

Bochum, currently 16th in the division and 12 clear of Darmstadt have also struggled for form in recent weeks. Since a shock 3:2 win against Bayern Munich in February, the hosts have lost four successive league matches with 13 goals leaked in the process.

While Bochum have lost their last two home matches, Thomas Letsch´s side had lost just one of their 13 previous Bundesliga matches at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion before back-to-back defeats against RB Leipzig and Freiburg prior to the international break.

Visiting Darmstadt have endured a miserable run of form with no league victories since a 2:1 win at Augburg last October. In fact, Torsten Lieberknecht´s side have only managed to win two matches all season while they have lost seven of their last 12 away from home. 

Bochum claimed a 2:1 win when these sides met earlier this season and considering the visitors poor run of form, I fancy the hosts to pick up a potentially decisive victory this weekend.
