Birmingham are playing its 13th consecutive season in the Championship. In the last seven, they are constantly in the lower part of the league's table, pretty close to the relegation zone. However, they are managing to stay afloat, and this season looks pretty similar. Right now, the Blues are 19th with 32 points from 30 matches, just three points away from the danger zone, although with a game fewer. They even tried shifting the team's poor momentum by changing coach, but that was short-lived, as they lost three in a row after an initial good start under coach Tony Mowbray.
Blackburn Rovers battled for the playoffs last season, but this one has been an absolute disaster so far. They are 17th with 36 points, closer to the relegation zone than the playoffs. Now, the Rovers are 11 points away from the playoffs, but with one game played fewer. Even though they are 17th, they can climb up if they string a few good results under the new coach. But they have to change something about their defense performances, considering they are among the worst teams in the Championship in that department.
Birmingham vs Blackburn pick: Over 2.5 goals
Birmingham are in terrible form, having lost three in a row without scoring a goal. Still, those losses were away from home. We believe they are more than capable of scoring a couple of goals against one of the worst defensive teams in the league. In the last two home games, Birmingham scored two goals vs Hull City and Swansea, which have been much better defensively than Blackburn.
Blackburn are the best team in the league for over 2.5 goals, considering 80% of their games (24 of 30 rounds) saw three or more goals. Their offense has been solid throughout the season, but defense has been a problem, especially away from home. In the last five road games, they allowed either three or four games every time!
In the previous h2h game, in November 2023, we have seen a 4:2 win for Blackburn. Considering all the above, we believe that an over 2.5 goals bet is the safest option for this Championship match.

Birmingham team news
Goalkeeper John Ruddy missed the previous two games due to injury, and according to English media, he will most likely miss the Blackburn game as well. Coach Mowbray wanted to sign one backup goalkeeper during the transfer window, but the club did not comply. So, we should see Neil Etheridge on the goal. In those two games, he was absolutely terrible and was the worst player on the field.
Besides Ruddy, players who missed the previous games will remain sidelined: George Hall, Dion Sanderson and Alfie Chang. Also, Alex Pritchard, a winter signing, should also miss the upcoming match with a calf injury and will most likely return on 17th February for the Sunderland game.
