Champions League action returns to the Allianz Arena with a mouthwatering contest on Wednesday as European heavyweights Bayern Munich and Manchester United face off in Germany.

Manchester United make their return to Europe´s top table in dismal form after a 3:1 home reversal against Brighton ensured a third loss in their last four PL matches.

With ten goals conceded in just four games, the Red Devils defence has been especially charitable in recent weeks, and a much-improved display will be needed if they are to leave Munich with any kind of positive result.

While United have begun the season poorly, Bayern remain unbeaten in four Bundesliga matches but were held to a 2:2 draw at this venue against Leverkusen on Friday. 

Despite the fine form of new signing Harry Kane, the Bavarians have yet to entirely convince since their shock 3:0 Super Cup loss against RB Leipzig in August. 

Since that heavy defeat, Bayern have kept just one clean sheet in four matches, and they may struggle to remedy that issue on Wednesday, with United sure to pose plenty of counter-attacking threat.

These European powerhouses have not met in the UCL since 2014 - Bayern emerged 4:2 aggregate winners on that occasion. In fact, three of the last four matches between these sides saw at least three goals scored, and I expect a similar outcome in Munich this Wednesday. 

While Bayern are deserved favourites to pick up three points, this fixture looks likely to see plenty of goal-mouth action, and I´m backing over 2.5 match goals with both teams also fancied to get on the scoresheet.
