Atletico Madrid and Girona go head to head in La Liga this weekend with both sides looking for points to cement their place in the top four.

The hosts have been very inconsistent this season but have stepped up to the plate in important games lately. Diego Simeone's side overcame a one goal deficit to beat Inter Milan in the last 16 of the Champions League and also recorded a vital 2-1 win in the quarter-final first leg against Dortmund in midweek.

Girona meanwhile have lost some of their lustre after a brilliant start to the season. The Red and Whites have dropped from second to third place, and one of the main reasons for this is their away form. Míchel's side go into Saturday's game on the back of a run of four consecutive away defeats with no goals scored in either of the last two.

The last meeting between these two sides in this division produced seven goals but I expect a different outcome this weekend. Diego Simeone is expected to make wholesale changes to the side that was on the pitch from kickoff in the win over Dortmund last time out with Antoine Griezmann among those who could be given a rest.

Atletico’s recent home games have also been particularly entertaining. Each of the last four ended with under 3.5 goals and I expect Saturday’s game to end similarly.

Girona have not had it easy when it comes to scoring away from home lately. The visitors failed to score in four of their last six away games in the Spanish top flight and just one of those games produced more than three goals.
