The big showdown on Tuesday in the Premier League will see Aston Villa looking to keep their top four hopes alive when they take on Newcastle United at Villa Park. 

Aston Villa have gone from a team fighting relegation to a team fighting for a Champions League place just within a year. Following the sacking of Steven Gerrard last season when Villa were on the brink of relegation, Unai Emery was brought in. The former Villarreal boss has turned Aston Villa into a team to keep an eye on, and his side is right up there in the standings with the best.

Newcastle United enjoyed a memorable season under Eddie Howe last season. The Magpies finished fourth in the 2022-23 campaign to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in 13 years but have been unable to build on that performance this season and their return to Europe didn't also end well as they well eliminated in the group stage.

Villa's success this season has been built on a solid home record. Along with Liverpool, the Villans are the only two teams yet to suffer a home defeat in the Premier League this season, and Emery's men have already beaten heavyweights such as Arsenal and Manchester City on home soil.

The main reason why Newcastle United are not in the top six is their away record. The Magpies are the second-worst away team in the league this season, only picking up five points from ten away games, and have lost all of their last five away Premier League fixtures.

That said, I expect goals plenty of goals, as the last few encounters between these two teams have been very entertaining. At least three goals were seen in each of the last four meetings across all competitions, so expect this trend to continue.
