Barcelona may have fallen short in their La Liga title quest, but their pursuit of a second-place finish continues this week as they gear up to face Almería at Power Horse Stadium this Thursday. 

The Catalans come into Thursday´s contest one point above local rivals Girona in a barely-believable fight to finish as runners-up behind champions Real Madrid. Xavi´s side bounced back from a remarkable 4:2 defeat at Girona with a much-needed 2:0 win against Real Sociedad on Monday.

In stark contrast, Almería finds themselves mired at the bottom of the table and already destined to spend next season in the Segunda Division. 

A miserable season sees the hosts come into this fixture still looking for a first home win of the season. Almeria lost nine and drew eight of 17 matches played at the Power Horse Stadium this season. Three goals or more were scored in eight of those nine defeats.

In their previous encounter, Barcelona emerged victorious with a hard-fought 3-2 win at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys and another high-scoring victory for the Catalans seems likely.
