Barcelona will be looking to cement their place in the top four of the Spanish top flight standings with a win when they face Alaves away from home this weekend.

Alaves had a very slow start to the 2023-24 campaign, picking up just two wins from their first eleven league games but there have been improvements as the season has progressed. With ten points from their last four games, Luis García's side have moved seven places above the red zone and are separated from the bottom three by ten points.

For Barcelona, things were looking very good at the start of the season as they completed the first fourteen competitive outings across all competitions without defeat. Xavi's men were not able to build on that and the best way to explain that is the fact that Blaugrana lost the Supercopa final 1:4 to Real Madrid, were eliminated from the Copa del Rey and are third in the league.

Alaves go into this game on a three-game winning streak in La Liga, but their record against Barca is very poor. Luis García's side last beat the Blaugrana in 2016 and have since gone 13 games without a win, losing 11 and drawing twice.

Along with Girona, Barcelona are the only other team yet to lose away from home this season in this division. Xavi Hernandez suffered another injury setback last time out against Osasuna as Ferran Torres picked up an injury early in the first half, but we believe the visitors still have enough quality to win this game.
