One of the favourites for the 2024 AFCON tournament, Algeria, will be looking to start the campaign on a winning note when they take on Angola on Monday night.

The Algerians come into this edition of the competition desperate to show a reaction after failing to defend their 2019 title in Cameroon four years ago as they crashed out at the group stage. Djamel Belmadi's side were one of the best teams in qualifying for this year's tournament, finishing first in Group F without suffering a single defeat, and will be looking to replicate those performances of the next few weeks.

Angola, on the other hand, failed to qualify for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nation and have never won the competition. The Black Stable Antelopes have been in good form of late though, avoiding defeat in their last five matches, and qualified for the tournament by finishing second in Group E with nine points from six games.

Angola cannot be taken lightly by an Algeria side who failed to win each of their last two meetings with the Black Sable antelopes and conceded four goals in their last two games at the AFCON finals.

The Angolan national team has lost only 2 of its last 15 competitive matches, although the last three have ended in draws, but four clean sheets from the last four games show how organized the team is in defence at the moment. 

Nevertheless, I think the Desert Warriors have a lot of quality in all areas of the pitch and should start the campaign with a win, even if it is only by one goal difference.
