The club sacked coach Jesualdo Ferreira on 24th January 2023 after a poor run of results in the Premier League, but he returned because Zamalek couldn't pay the penalty clause. But because poor results continued, the club sacked the coach the second time and the entire coaching staff after a 3:2 loss to Al Masry. On 10th April, Zamalek announced Juan Carlos Osorio as the new head coach. Under the new coach, Zamalek won seven points in four league games and also advanced to Egypt Cup 1/8 finals.
The team's best central defender, Mahmoud Hamdi Al-Wensh, suffered a knee injury against Ismaily and will miss the Aswan game.
