Southampton are relegated from Premier League after 11 consecutive seasons. The Saints are the only team relegated before the last round. They won just 24 points in 37 matches - nine away from the safe zone. Southampton even tried to shift the momentum by appointing a new head coach, but it didn't work. In fact, they were even worse when they changed the coach.

Liverpool had a really poor season, and at times it even looked like they could miss on Europe next season. But with a strong end of the season, they moved up in the standings. One round before the end of the season, they are three points away from the fourth-placed Manchester United. Still, Liverpool have one extra game played at this moment, so it is hard to expect they can grab that fourth place and the Champions League next season.

Southampton vs Liverpool pick: Liverpool to win and cover the -1.5 AH

Southampton are on a twelve-game winless streak, and recently, they have been even worse with five straight losses. During those five losses, they allowed 13 goals - 2.6 per game.

The Saints lost by two or more goals in three of the last four matches. During that period, they did not lose by 2+ goals only against Nottingham (4:3). But Nottingham had one goal disallowed, and Southampton also scored one goal in the 96th minute. So, we could easily see them lose by two or more goals in this game too.

Liverpool are in very good form, with seven wins in the last eight matches. On the road, they are also playing very well and have won three in a row with an 11:2 goal difference against teams from the lower part of the league table (Leicester, West Ham, and Leeds).

Liverpool won the previous four h2h games, and three of those four wins were by two or more goals difference.

Southampton team news

On 24th February, the club appointed Ruben Selles as the new head coach, but they were terrible under him. After three months at the helm, on 24th May, the club announced that they will not renew the contract with Selles.

A starting striker, Che Adams, will miss the game with a calf injury.

Two starting center-backs, Armel Bella-Kotchap, and Mohammed Salisu, are injured and will miss the game. With those two out, Jan Bednarek and Lyanco will most likely start at the back.

The two best left full-backs, Romain Perraud, and Juan Larios, are also injured and should miss the game.

Liverpool team news

After a 1:1 draw, coach Jurgen Klopp spoke to the media. He said they were too much in a rush and played "in their cards." He also said their pressing was not good, and they had to calm down in the second half. After the break, they did a better job and scored two goals, but one was disallowed.

Darwin Nunez missed the previous two games with a toe injury and should miss the next game too.

Three rotation midfielders, Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, and Stefan Bajčetić, should miss the game with injuries.

Two backup defenders will also miss the game with injuries: Calvin Ramsay and Rhys Williams.
