  • Kickoff: 20:00 UK / 21:00 CEST
  • Venue: Stade Vélodrome (Marseille)

Marseille finished the last season 2nd, just a few points away from the title. This year, they will once again finish the season without the Ligue 1 title. They are in 3rd place with 73 points from 36 matches. They are without a real chance to even move to second place since they are five points behind Lens with just two rounds left.

Marseille were not too good at home throughout the season. In fact, they won five more points on the road than at home! Still, that hasn't been the case in recent games, and they haven't lost in the last five home games.

Since Brest won promotion in the 2018/19 season, they have been mostly a mid-table team in Ligue 1. This season they were in an out of the relegation zone but with a strong end of the season, they climbed in the standings. Currently, they are in 14th place with 41 points from 36 matches - seven more than 17th-placed Nantes. Considering there are just two rounds left, they secured survival.

Marseille vs Brest pick: Over 2.5 goals

Marseille were over 2.5 goals in the previous six games. They have been a good team offensively the entire season, but in recent games, they are not doing a great job defensively. They allowed at least one goal in all of those six games. At home, they are not much better either since they allowed at least one goal in the previous ten games!

This season, Marseille were 22 times over 2.5 goals in 36 rounds in Ligue 1. At home, they had 12 games with three or more goals in 18 rounds. So, Marseille went over 2.5 goals in 66% of their home games this season.

Brest are in good form recently, with just one loss in the last nine games. Offensively, they have been very good by their standards and have scored at least one goal in 11 of the previous 12 games. I expect them to score at least once against Marseille, which hasn't been the best defensively.

Five of the last six h2h matches finished with three or more goals.

Marseille team news

Dmitri Payet received a five-match suspension after he slapped Lens' assistant coach and will miss the game. Still, there is speculation that Payet wouldn't play anyway because of problems between him and coach Tudor.

A starting left full-back, Nuno Tavares, did not play in the last game because coach Tudor was unhappy with his attitude in training. He could miss the Brest game too.

Due to a broken toe, Azzedine Ounahi will miss the game. He already missed the previous eight games.

Two players dealing with long-term injuries will remain sidelined: Amine Harit and Pedro Ruiz.

Brest team news

After a series of bad results, Brest sacked their coach and appointed Eric Roy as an interim coach on 3rd January. He has a contract until 30th June 2023, and the club still hasn't offered a new one. Under Roy, Brest have been very good and relatively easily secured survival.

In one of his recent interviews, Roy said he wants to continue with a coaching job and would be satisfied to continue to work in Brest. "I have that in me. I am so passionate about football, and I took so much pleasure in sharing things with a group, accompanying, encouraging, or yelling at the players. Why not (continue to work) here?" the coach added.

Right full-back Noah Fadiga missed the previous four games due to a hip injury and should miss the Marseille game too.
