Coming into this crucial matchup, Dortmund and Newcastle are locked together on four points, two short of section leaders PSG but two ahead of AC Milan. As such, both teams will know the importance of getting a positive result at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK.

However, both experienced contrasting domestic results ahead of Tuesday´s crunch Champions League contest.

In the Bundesliga, Dortmund slumped to a disastrous 4:0 home thumping from old rivals Bayern Munich while Newcastle scored a massive win against Arsenal.

While BVB had been performing well before Saturday´s beatdown from the Bavarians, Edin Terzic´s side have flattered to deceive and look somewhat short of the form that took them so close to winning their first Bundesliga title in over a decade.

Dortmund´s home form had proved the cornerstone of their success last season but they have struggled to find their shooting boots at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK during this campaign. In five of their last six home fixtures, Terzic´s men have not managed to score more than one goal. While four clean sheets ensured Dortmund did manage to win four of those matches, a lack of firepower could prove their undoing this season.

Contrastingly, Newcastle make the journey in great spirits after a week that saw them thrash Man Utd 3:0 at Old Trafford in the League Cup before a narrow but vital 1:0 Premier League win against Arsenal on Saturday.

Eddie Howe´s in-form side have now lost just one of their last 12 matches although that defeat did come against their opponents on Tuesday.

Given Newcastle´s superior form and Dortmund´s confidence-deflating defeat against Bayern, I fancy the Magpies to take at least a draw in what could prove a low-scoring affair in Germany.
