A vital fixture in the battle for European qualification takes place in the Premier League on Saturday as Aston Villa hosts Tottenham at Villa Park.

Currently sixth and eighth, respectively, Spurs hold a narrow three-point advantage over the hosts, who could leapfrog their visitors with a three-goal victory or more.

Having enjoyed a brilliant run of form under Unai Emery, which had seen Aston Villa pick up eight wins and two draws from ten games between the end of February and the final week of April, the Villains have now suffered back-to-back away losses, denting their European challenge.

Now returning to home comforts, Emery´s side will be looking to get back to winning ways against a Spurs side that has won only one of their last five PL games. On the road, Tottenham continues to struggle, having lost four of their last six with just two draws achieved during that period. A leaky defence has proven particularly problematic, with the Londoners conceding a whopping 19 goals during that period - that´s an average of over three per game. 

Conversely, Villa have been in brilliant home form, with the hosts winning each of their last five PL games at Villa Park with clean sheets in all five victories, including a hugely impressive 3:0 win against Newcastle.

While Spurs have improved somewhat under temporary boss Ryan Mason with somewhat spirited displays in recent matches against Liverpool and Man Utd, we feel the visitors are likely to come up short against a well-organised and confident home side. Despite their recent road reversals, Villa should have too much cohesion and quality in their home performance, and a victory for the hosts should be backed with some confidence. 

Spurs do have the edge in recent meetings between these sides, with the visitors winning five and losing three of their last eight, Villa claimed a 2:0 win when these sides last met in London, and we´re backing the improving home side to claim a PL double against Spurs for the first time this century.
