Champions League qualification hopefuls Aston Villa return to Premier League duty this weekend as they take on Bournemouth at Villa Park.

Aston Villa´s remarkable season continued apace on Thursday as the Villians secured a dramatic penalty shootout victory against Lille to secure their place in the Europa Conference League semi-finals. 

Having been outplayed for much of the 90 minutes, the Villains showed their powers of resilience to book their tickets for the final four with a thrilling shootout win in France. 

Back in the EPL, VIlla look to be on course to claim a first-ever Champions League qualification spot after last weekend's sensational win at Arsenal. Now sitting fourth in the division, and ten points clear of sixth-placed Newcastle, Unai Emery´s side have won their last three league matches. 

At VIlla Park, the Villains set a new record this season with 15 successive home wins picked up in the EPL between March and December of last year. However, the hosts have struggled for consistency in recent weeks with just three wins in their last eight home EPL matches (W3, D2, L3). 

Goals can usually be expected at Villa Park. Over 2.5 goals have been scored in six of the hosts last seven home EPL games. Villa only managed one clean sheet in their previous eight league fixtures on home soil. 

Bournemouth come into this fixture having enjoyed an excellent run of form which has seen them win four and lose just one of their last seven EPL matches. The Cherries are a particularly dangerous team away from home, with at least one goal scored in 14 of their last 15 away EPL fixtures. 

Andoni Iraola´s side picked up five away wins in their last ten road fixtures, and while I don´t expect them to claim the points this weekend, they should be able to score in a likely entertaining contest.

Indeed, considering Villa´s likely fatigue, this fixture could prove evenly balanced and I expect both teams to score, and at least three goals netted.
