Rennes vs Toulouse prediction 13.04.2024

On Saturday evening, Rennes and Toulouse will face off against each other in the 29th round of the Ligue 1 at Roazhon Park in Rennes.

In the previous two seasons, Rennes finished fourth, securing the Europa League for two consecutive seasons. However, this season, the Red and Blacks had their ups and downs in Ligue 1, and are now in 9th place, just one point away from 7th place. That could mean the Europa Conference League if PSG wins the Cup, which is pretty likely. On the other hand, Rennes were OK in the Cup competitions, reaching the Semi-Finals in the domestic Cup, where PSG eliminated them 1:0, and reaching the EL 1/16, where they lost 5:3 on aggregate against AC Milan. 

Toulouse, a surprising Cup winner from the last year, are playing a pretty solid season, at least by their standards. In the Europa League, they reached the 1/16 Finals and are on pace for a mid-table finish in Ligue 1. Right now, they are 11th with 33 points, seven points away from the danger zone, and we do not think they will get involved in the relegation battle. Their weakest performance was in the Cup, where they were eliminated from the 1/16 Finals by a third-tier team, FC Rouen. 

Rennes vs Toulouse pick: Rennes to win

Rennes lost three in a row (two in the league and one in the Cup), but those losses were all away from home. Strictly looking at their home record, we can see that they have been really good, winning six of seven games, including games vs Marseille, AC Milan, and Nice. 

Toulose are in solid form, especially away from home. However, we do not trust them since they are inconsistent and even lost to Rouen in the Cup. 

In the first h2h game, we saw a goalless draw. However, that was at Stadium Municipal in Toulouse. In the last two h2h games at Rennes' pitch, the Red and Blacks won four of the last five matches. Considering all the above, we believe that Rennes should secure all three points in this Ligue 1 clash.
