An intriguing contest awaits us on Thursday night when Benfica host Ligue 1 side Marseille for the first leg of the Europa League quarter finals.
A few days after suffering elimination in the semi-finals of the Portuguese Cup against Sporting, the hosts had the chance for revenge last weekend when the two sides met in the league, but lightning struck twice. Roger Schmidt's side suffered a 1-2 defeat and now find themselves four points off the top of the table.
Marseille meanwhile had an interesting spell between mid-February and March when they registered five consecutive wins, but this didn't last long. Les Phocéens go into Thursday's game on a four-game losing streak in all competitions, and conceded at least two goals in each of those matches.
Betting Tips Benfica vs Marseille: Both teams to score
Benfica boast at least one goal from each of their last seven games, but they have showed signs of weakness in defence of late, especially at home. The Primeira Liga side failed to keep a clean sheet in three of their last four home matches and I fancy a similar outcome this week.
Marseille can’t boast a good defence either. The Ligue 1 side finished just two of their last seventeen matches without conceding and don’t equally have a good defensive away record in Europe either. They conceded at least two goals in each of their two European matches on the road and bets on BTTS – Yes won in both matches.
