A crucial fixture in the race for Champions League football, fourth-placed Atletico come into Saturday's matchup just three points ahead of visiting Bilbao. 

Atletico are reeling after a disastrous week that saw them knocked out of the Champions League by Dortmund (4:2) and then humbled in La Liga by Alaves (2:0).

Returning to the Metropolitano after those successive road losses, Atletico can call on a superb home record which has seen them win 23 of their last 25 La Liga matches. However, Bilbao claimed a 1:0 win when these sides last met at this venue in the Copa del Rey in February. 

Ernesto Valverde´s side would go on to claim glory in the Copa del Rey final against Mallorca but the visitors have drawn each of their last three matches having dropped points in successive home fixtures against Villarreal and Granada.

On their travels, Bilbao have lost two of their last three road trips but are usually tough to beat away from home with only three losses in their last 14 matches on their travels since November. Eight of the Basque side´s last nine away fixtures saw under 2.5 goals scored, and a similarly tight contest seems likely when we consider the closely-fought nature of Bilbao´s recent cup win at this venue.

With so much on the line, I expect a low-scoring outcome so I'm taking a chance on under 2.5 goals scored on Saturday.  Five of the last six meetings between these sides saw fewer than three goals netted, and something similar seems likely with both teams a little short on winning form.
