Sweden vs South Korea Prediction, Betting Tips and Preview

This Monday, Sweden and South Korea will face off and start their 2018 World Cup campaign at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium. Judging by their form and the way that they’ve played in the recent past, we can say that the fans are in for a real treat full of exciting football and great betting chances.

Sweden is back at the World cup after twelve years and they are a strong candidate to progress to the knock-out phase. They have proven themselves to be able to play without their biggest star, Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swedes pulled off one of the biggest surprises of the last year when they managed to one-up Italy in the playoffs and secure their place at the Cup, leaving Italy behind. As part of their preparation for the competition, they played two friendly matches in June and drew both. First, they played against Denmark and after that they faced Peru. They demonstrated their defensive abilities and composure, something that is more than needed in games like these. One of the players to look out for could be Oscar Hiljemar who plays as a central midfielder and has proven his quality in the past. In 2015, he won the European Championship with Sweden and it hasn’t taken him too long to leave a mark in the senior squad. Sweden will have to improve their performance in order to progress further. Currently, they remain on a four-game winless streak and their attack seems to be lacking, having failed to score in the previous three matches.

South Korea has established themselves as one of the best Asian teams and now they have a tough task to prove that. They played their first World Cup in 1954 and since then have had mediocre results at it. Their form has not been the best in the recent weeks. In June, they played three friendly games out of which they managed to lose two and draw one. They lost to Bosnia by the score of 1-3 and Senegal by the score of 0-2. They drew with Bolivia by the score of 0-0. The qualifying process that they had was average at best. Korea’s coach Shin Tae-yong made some interesting additions to the final squad of 23. The Crystal Palace midfielder Lee Chung-yong is one of the major causalities alongside the experienced striker Lee Keun-ho and defender Kim Kee-hee who plays his trade with Seattle Sounders in the MLS. The player to watch is RB Salzburg striker Hwang Hee-chan, who will partner with Spur’s attacker Son Heung-min.

The teams have met on two occasions in the past, both in friendly matches. The games were played in 2005. The first one ended with the score of 1-1 and the second by the score of 2-2. It is hard to say that one side is the favorite over the other and as we know in the early stages of the cup everything can happen. The thing that we can count on is that both nations will give their best and try to provide joy to the fans back home.
