Southampton vs Liverpool Betting Tips
Having romped to the title last season, Liverpool is just beginning to feel a bit of pressure in the English Premier League following two disappointing draws with WBA and Newcastle.
Indeed, depending on other results this weekend, Liverpool could find their position at the top of the table under threat with Klopp´s side now level with Man Utd following the Red Devils win on Friday over a rapidly improving Aston Villa.
While the champions have undoubtedly had some significant injury problems to contend with this season, their away form in the PL has been poor for some months now. Indeed, having won 16 out of 16 away PL matches between March 2019 and January 2020, Liverpool has now won just 5 of their last 15 on the road since January and just 1 of their last 7.
Hosts Southampton comes into this match also struggling to reach top form in recent weeks and have now failed to win any of their last 4 league matches and just 2 of their last 8. They had won 5 of the previous 6.
At St. Marys, the Saints are quite inconsistent, winning 8 and losing 7 of their 17 home PL matches in 2020 while they have won just 1 of their last 4, failing to score in their last two against Man City and West Ham.
Recent meetings between these sides suggest a Liverpool win is likely with the Anfield side winning each of the last 6 including the last 3 at St Mary´s but given their recent away form; it´s hard to back Klopp´s side at short odds of 1.61.
While this fixture usually produces plenty of goals, with 5 of the last 6 going over 2.5 goals, recent matches in the Pl have been somewhat lacking in spark, perhaps as a consequence of the intense fixture scheduling which has seen Liverpool and other Champions League sides from England already play 24 games in just over 3 months.
Under 2.5 goals is big at 2.2 while under 3.5 goals is a safer yet still decent option at 1.5 odds and while I could be wrong, I have a hunch this match will be tightly contested and low-scoring.
Southampton vs Liverpool Correct Score Prediction
Liverpool has a strong h2h record over Saints, but this won´t be easy, and I expect Klopp´s side to emerge with a hard-fought and narrow 1:0 success.
