After spending eight consecutive seasons in League Two (4th tier), where they were mostly a mid-table team, Stevenage finally played a good season last year and returned to League One. They finished second with 85 points from 46 rounds. This year, they started great in League One, and they are currently tied for first place with Exeter, Bolton, and Port Vale with 13 points from six rounds. After losing on penalties vs AFC Wimbledon in the previous game in the EFL Trophy, coach Steve Evans was not satisfied. He said it was a poor game from both sides, and neither team deserved points.
