After spending eight consecutive seasons in League Two (4th tier), where they were mostly a mid-table team, Stevenage finally played a good season last year and returned to League One. They finished second with 85 points from 46 rounds. This year, they started great in League One, and they are currently tied for first place with Exeter, Bolton, and Port Vale with 13 points from six rounds. Still, their recent games (especially in the Cups) are a reason for concern.
Carlisle had a similar path in recent seasons, as they spent the previous nine in League Two and also gained promotion to League One in the previous one. But, unlike Stevenage, who gained direct promotion, The Cumbrians had to go through the playoffs. This season, after six rounds, Carlisle are 19th with only five points.
Stevenage vs Carlisle pick: Under 2.5 goals
Stevenage had an excellent start to the season. They won the first four games, but since then, The Boro weren't great, winning just once in the last five games. Even though they are the favorites to win the game, we do not trust them enough, considering their recent form.
Stevenage were great defensively this season, allowing only three goals in League One. Only Exeter and Portsmouth allowed fewer so far (two). At home, they have been even better, as they kept a clean sheet in both League One matches vs Shrewsbury and Portsmouth, which are, for now, better than Carlisle.
Carlisle were under 2.5 goals in all eight matches this season. Offensively, they have been atrocious, scoring only four goals so far, and on the road, they have been even worse - failing to score in all four matches. So, expecting a goal from them at Broadhall Way is pretty unreal. Still, their defense is not bad at all. In those four road games, they did lose every time but only allowed one goal per game.
The previous h2h game finished with a goalless draw. Although we favor Stevenage a bit more this time, an under 2.5 goals bet should be the safest option for this tie.

Stevenage team news
After losing on penalties vs AFC Wimbledon in the previous game in the EFL Trophy, coach Steve Evans was not satisfied. He said it was a poor game from both sides, and neither team deserved points. But he said he experimented with the squad because they have an important game on Saturday vs Carlisle.
According to local media, coach Evans was offered a job at Hibernian but declined.
On 2nd September, the club added defensive midfielder Harvey White on a loan deal from Tottenham U21.
A few players who missed the last games could be out for this one, too: Aaron Pressley, Louis Thompson, Ben Thompson, and Kane Smith.

Carlisle United team news
After a 1:0 loss to Accrington (League Two team) in the EFL Trophy, coach Paul Simpson spoke to the media. He said they were solid in the first 45 minutes but were not good in the second half. He said playing at this tempo will be challenging since they are not used to it. According to the coach, that could be the main reason behind their poor display in the second half.
Coach Paul Simpson heavily rotated the squad to keep his key players fresh for the league because they desperately need some points.
According to credible sources, central defender Ben Barclay is out for this game with a calf injury. He will most likely be between four to six weeks. Also, a starting left full-back, Jack Armer, missed the last game with back problems. But he should be ready for the Stevenage game.
