Following a desperately disappointing Champions League semi-final defeat against rivals Inter, Milan look to get back to winning ways in Serie A when they take on relegation-threatened Spezia at the Stadio Alberto Picco.

Now without a Serie A win in eight matches, Spezia finds themselves three points adrift of safety with just four games remaining in the league campaign. With a crunch fixture against Lecce to follow next week, the home side could really use a leg-up in their bid to escape the relegation trapdoor. 

While the home side´s downturn in form has come at the worst possible stage of the campaign, Spezia will take heart from the fact they have already vanquished one-half of Milan this season, with Inter losing at this venue in March. However, since that superb 2:1 victory, Spezia have failed to win any of their next eight games, with only three points collected during that period.

Yet, with Milan desperately poor last Wednesday and facing that enormous second leg against city rivals Inter on Tuesday, Spezia will surely see this fixture as one they can take something from, with I Rossoneri likely to have their eye on bigger fish to fry.

Spezia claimed a 2:0 win against Milan at this venue some two years ago, and since then, each of their subsequent three meetings has seen both teams score, including Speza´s famous 2:1 win at the San Siro in 2022. Both teams hitting the target again looks likely, considering both teams' defensive issues of late. Milan have kept just two clean sheets in their last ten away league outings. 

Indeed, with Milan winning just two of their last eight on the road and with Champions League fatigue and distractions potentially playing their part, we fancy Spezia to take at least a draw in a game where both teams can score. Milan will want to bounce back from their poor performance against Inter; however, with Rafa Leao again likely to be absent, the visitors' lack of firepower could prove costly against a Spezia side desperate for three points.
