- Competition: English Premier League
- Date: 21st January 2023
- Kickoff: 15:00 UTC
- Venue: St. Mary's Stadium
Relegation favourites Southampton will take on 11th-placed Aston Villa at St. Mary's this Saturday. The Saints are sitting bottom of the table with just four wins and 34 goals conceded from 19 game weeks. Villa are ten points ahead of their next hosts, with 11 wins or draws from their set of 19 fixtures since the season began in August. Interestingly, it is this very venue, their own backyard, which may cost Southampton a relegation in 2023 as their home record stands abysmal at just one win from nine games played and 16 goals conceded in the process. With the same number of goals conceded albeit away from home, Villa will be looking for just their third win on away turf this weekend.
Southampton vs Aston Villa Betting Pick #1: Southampton to win
The Saints might be bottom of the pile right now, but they are slowly gaining momentum with three wins on the trot. Fortunately for the hosts, Aston Villa are missing some of their key men ahead of Saturday too (due to injuries), which really strengthens Southampton's chances of getting their fourth consecutive win across all competitions. Five of the last eight meetings between the two sides have ended in a Southampton win too, adding more weight to our prediction. Although very risky at 2.88 odds at the time of writing, we are betting on the Saints' momentum in this game.
Pick #2: BTTS + Over 2.5 goals
Both sides have scored as well as conceded against 80% of their recent opponents now - Southampton against 8 of their last 10 and Villa against 4 of their last 5. So, there is pretty much no doubt that there will be goals at either end of the pitch on Saturday. Also, we also expect Southampton to score a third goal and get a win in this game, requiring a minimum third goal to get all three points too. A massive accumulator bet of all our three suggested picks could be a multi-bagger with over 5.00+ odds.

Southampton Team News
Southampton will miss one of their key defenders, Armel Bella-Kotchap, on Saturday. The German international suffered a knock recently and will be out for a few more weeks at least. Che Adams continues to be the lone striker upfront as Stuart Armstrong is still recovering from his groin injury which shall see him sidelined till mid-February at least. Theo Walcott might make an appearance from the bench as he remains doubtful for a first-team spot, thanks to his calf problems which have been recurring for quite some time now.
Players to watch: James Ward-Prowse (5 goals and 2 assists), Che Adams (20 chances created this season), Romeo Lavia (1.7 interceptions per 90 mins)

Aston Villa Team News
Villa have lost two key players just in the last game week, to injuries. Striker Ollie Watkins and left-back Lucas Digne were taken off in the first half itself against Leeds United. Watkins has suffered an ankle injury, while Digne will miss the next few game weeks due to a shoulder injury. Both players are expected to return by mid-February, leaving them sidelined for this Saturday's game for sure. Matty Cash might make a return to the squad, but from the bench in the second half, as he has recovered from a knock he suffered recently.
Players to watch: Danny Ings (6 goals), Douglas Luiz (20 chances created this season), Tyrone Mings (1.6 interceptions per 90 mins)
