An intriguing Ligue 1 contest takes place at Roazhon Park on Sunday as fifth-placed Rennes hosts Marseille.

While the visitors arrive in Rennes, currently second in the division, it has been a miserable week for Marseille with a 3:0 loss to PSG followed by a shock CDF exit at the hands of Annecy. 

Now facing a Rennes side that boasts one of the best home records in Europe, Les Phocenes could find themselves up against it come Sunday night.

Over the past 14 months, Rennes have enjoyed a superb run of form at Roazhon Park, with Bruno Génésio´s side winning 19 of their previous 22 home league matches since January 2022. Impressively, Rennes scored two goals or more in 18 of those victories.

Having suffered a painful penalty-kick exit at the hands of Shakhtar in the Europa League, Rennes bounced back with a road win at Nantes last weekend and now find themselves just four points behind third-placed Monaco and a potential CL qualification spot. 

However, while Rennes are certainly a strong home side, Marseille have done their best work on their travels this season, with Les Phocenes winning nine of 12 away Ligue 1 matches, including each of the last six. In addition, Marseille scored two goals or more in 10 of their last 11 away league matches.

With that in mind, it´s hard to see past both teams scoring here. While Rennes are formidable at Roazhon Park, Marseille have only failed to score in two of their previous 27 away matches in this division. Of course, one of those failures did come at this venue, with Rennes claiming a 2:0 success when these sides last met in May 2022.
