RB Leipzig vs Union Berlin prediction

Having picked up yet another away win at the weekend, RB Leipzig returns to the Red Bull Arena for the semi-final of the DFB Pokal against Union Berlin.

With all of the other German heavyweights already eliminated, RB will be determined to return to the final of this competition for the third time in four years with the winners of this semi-final awaiting the winners set to face either Freiburg or Hamburg in May´s final.

RB have certainly enjoyed an excellent run of form ahead of this contest with the hosts unbeaten in each of their last 14 matches in all competitions while they have won each of their last 3 matches with clean sheets kept in all 3 victories against dangerous opponents Hoffenheim, Atalanta and Leverkusen. 

At home, RB have stuttered somewhat in recent matches though, drawing 4 of their last 5 but they will fancy their chances here with visiting Union not the best of travellers this season.

Indeed, the Capital based Union arrives in Eastern Germany having lost 4 of their last 5 away matches, failing to score in all 4 losses although they have improved their overall form in recent weeks with 3 successive victories including a big 4:1 win in the local derby against Hertha.

Still, RB are in such great form that it´s hard to see past another victory for Domenic Tedesco´s improving side. Recent meetings between these sides also suggest RB will be confident with the home side winning all 4 previous home matches against Union and with a place in the DFB Pokal final up for grabs, it would be a surprise if RB slipped up here.

While goals have been common in this fixture, RB have really tightened up in recent months, keeping clean sheets in 6 of their last 10 matches and in 4 of their last 8 at home. With Union struggling for form on the road, we expect RB to secure their place in the DFB Pokal final with a relatively comfortable night´s work.
