Day Five of the FIFA World Cup continues with another tasty-looking tie as Portugal kick-off their campaign against Ghana at Stadium 974.

Currently priced at 13.0 to win the competition, Portugal are seventh favourites in pre-tournament betting, while Ghana are comparative underdogs, priced up at 250.0 to become the first-ever African nation to win the World Cup.

However, whatever their chances of winning the tournament,  a competitive and entertaining contest seems likely in Group H, with the Ghanaians certainly not to be underestimated despite enduring a somewhat disappointing year.

Portugal vs Ghana Betting Tips: Portugal to win

Returning to their first World Cup in 8 years, Ghana actually faced Portugal in their most recent WC fixture in 2014, going down to a 2:1 defeat in their final group stage fixture following a 2:2 draw with Germany and a narrow defeat against the US.

Now back on the big stage under former player Otto Addo, the Black Stars endured a miserable beginning to the year, bowing out in the group stages at the AFCON following a humiliating loss against Comoros.

Still, Ghana does have plenty of quality within their ranks, and in a group alongside old foes Uruguay and South Korea, Addo´s side will believe qualification to the knockout phase is well within their grasp.

Portugal, for their part, boasts enormous attacking quality, notwithstanding the continued presence of an ageing Cristiano Ronaldo, and it remains to be seen what role the 37-year-old will take in this competition with his club future still very much up for debate at the time of writing.

Ultimately, Portugal will fancy their chances of picking up a  victory in this their first fixture of the competition. Winning 9 of their last 13 at the time of writing, Portugal are in good form and a victory here seems likely.

However, history suggests BTTS also has a good chance with the Portuguese seeing that outcome in 5 of their last 6 WC matches since 2014. Ghana, for their part, have also seen BTTS in each of their last 5 WC matches.

Still, the Portuguese have to be favoured for the win with Ghana badly out of form in 2022, and while it will surely be competitive, Fernando Santos's side should be backed to begin their tournament with a vital 3 points.

Otto Addo´s side are up against it here against a hugely talented opponent but can rely on the experience of Ayew brothers Jordan and Andre, who are both expected to start.

Teenager Felix Afena-Gyan could well start in the Ghanian attack, while Leicester´s Daniel Amarety will lead the defensive rearguard against Portugal's potent attack.
