Nordsjaelland vs Spartak Trnava prediction 09.11.2023

On Thursday evening, Denmark's vice-champion, Nordsjaelland, will face off against Slovakia's third-best team from last season, Spartak Trnava, in the fourth round of the Europa Conference League group stage. This match is very important because it could decide who will advance to the next stage of the competition after only four rounds. 

Nordsjaelland were very close to winning the Danish title last season, as they were only four points away from the eventual champ, FC Copenhagen. This season, after 14 rounds, they have mixed results in the domestic league and are currently 5th, seven points away from the top spot. However, they have been absolutely great in the Europe Conference League, both in the group and the qualifiers as well. 

Spartak Trnava have been mostly the third-best team in Slovakia. This year started pretty poorly in the domestic league, but we can see an improvement in recent games. However, they were far from impressive in Europe, especially in the group phase, where they lost all three games and scored only one goal. Now, with a potential loss, they will lose even a theoretical chance to advance to the next phase.

Nordsjaelland had a pretty rough period in September, but everything before and after that was excellent. Lately, they were great, winning four of the last five matches, including a 2:0 win over Spartak Trnava in Slovakia. In Europe, they were great, especially at home, where they won vs FCSB, Partizan Belgrade, and Ludogorets with an incredible 14:1 goal difference. One of the problems for the visiting teams is that the pitch is covered with artificial grass, which poses a lot of problems for most teams that are not used to playing on it. 

Spartak Trnava are in good form, winning three in a row, but two of those wins came against very poor teams so that winning streak looks much better than it actually is. Even though they are playing well on the road this season, that has not been the case in Europe, where they failed to win in four games (qualifiers and group stage combined). In the group stage, Spartak have been really bad, losing all three matches and scoring just one goal.

In the previous game, in Slovakia, Nordsjaelland won pretty easily 2:0. Considering the last game h2h and the home pitch advantage, we expect another comfortable win for Nordsjaelland.
