- Competition: English Premier League
- Date: 15th January 2022
- Kickoff: 14:00 UTC / 15:00 GMT
- Venue: St. James' Park
Newcastle have a great chance to cement their position in the Premier League top-four race as two other Champions League contending sides, Manchester United and Manchester City play on the weekend against each other. The third-ranked home side is the best defensive side in the competition with just 11 goals conceded since August, three fewer than any other Premier League side in 2022-23. Fulham has played a game more, but are sitting sixth right now, their best-ever Premier League position in January in all their stints in the English top flight. The Cottagers have scored as many goals (32) as Newcastle this season, but have won less than 50% of away games since the season began. Given Newcastle's unbeaten record at St. James' Park and just five goals conceded in 9 games played at this venue, we do not see the Lilywhites dampening their counterparts' numbers.
Newcastle vs Fulham Betting Pick #1: Newcastle to win
Newcastle have not lost to Fulham on the last five occasions. Also, the new entrants to the Champions League race also have five wins and four draws from their home games since August. With points dropped against Arsenal recently, we do not see Eddie Howe's men lose on this opportunity to get close to Manchester City and Arsenal, especially with City visiting United on the same weekend. We are going for a Newcastle win in this game priced at 1.50 odds, which is fairly a good return for the high probability it comes with.
Pick #2: Under 3.5 goals
It will be a great accumulator, taking the odds to around 2.0+, if a Newcastle win is combined with Under 3.5 goals on Sunday. Fulham have scored against each of their last six opponents, but over 80% of Newcastle's games at home, this year have not seen more than three goals being scored. Moreover, Newcastle have the best defence in the league too (home/away/combined) and they are highly likely to not concede more than one goal if not a clean sheet.

Newcastle United Team News
Full-back Matt Targett is close to returning to the first team as the defender has recovered from his foot injury and will find himself on the bench for the next game after this Fulham visit. Midfield sensation and Newcastle veteran Jonjo Shelvey might not find a first-team spot again as Bruno Guimaraes has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the league in Shelvey's role. The ex-Liverpool and Swansea man is still nursing a calf injury and is not expected to be back in training by mid-February 2023.
Players to watch: Miguel Almiron (9 goals and 1 assist), Kieran Tripper (47 chances created this season), Fabian Schar (1.6 interceptions per 90 mins)

On loan from Brighton, Shane Duffy will not be available for this game on Sunday. The centre-back is currently ill as per club reports and might be back for the next game for sure. Kebano is recovering from an Achilles Tendon injury and his expected comeback is now less than two game-weeks away, maximum. The Portuguese coach has no other absentees apart from this duo.
Players to watch: Aleksandar Mitrovic (11 goals and 1 assist), Andreas Pereira (43 chances created this season), Kenny Tete (1.7 interceptions per 90 mins)
