  • Competition: France - Ligue 1
  • Date: Sunday, 14th, May 2023
  • Kickoff: 16:05 UK / 17.05 CEST
  • Venue: Stade Louis II (Monaco)

Paris Saint-Germain, despite the numerous stumbles during the second half of the campaign, is very close to the new championship title in Ligue 1 and that is as clear as day to everyone. But, there is no doubt that we are expecting an exciting battle for position number 2 and 3 that bring placement in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League and qualification for the same.

One of the pretenders for the mentioned positions is Monaco. Namely, The Princes managed to add 64 points to their account, which leaves them in a high fourth position, only six points behind third-placed Marseille. They are aware that their chances of winning the second place are equal to zero, but that cannot be said for the 3rd position, from which they are only separated by six steps.

Their rival, LOSC Lille, is not even a shadow of the team that won the trophy intended for the best in the country two years ago. This season, however, they will be satisfied with the consolation prize, which is placement in the youngest UEFA competition. However, the recent champion of France will not have an easy task to save fifth place, as them Rennes and Lyon are breathing down their necks with only three points behind.

Monaco vs LOSC Lille Betting Tips: 1X (Double chance)

In the first clash of the season between these rivals, a great drama was seen. Twice the home squad (Lille) led, but Monaco managed to come back, reverse the result and celebrate in a seven-goal thriller - 4-3. The Princes will not have an easy task this time either, but they will try to achieve a double victory for the first time since 2017/18.

Coach Philippe Clement's team played fluffy football since the start of 2023, was in a great rise in form, but recently they stopped and it at a moment when they shouldn't. However, after painful defeats against RC Lens (0-3) and Montpellier (0-4), Monaco returned to the winning track with a 2-1 victory over written off Angers.

In order for The Princes to continue their chase for third-placed Marseille (a place that brings qualification in the Champions League), they will have to improve their home record, which has been criminally bad in recent weeks. The Monegasques, believe it or not, have suffered four defeats from their last six competitive games at home.

The recent champions of France, LOSC Lille, are playing very erraticaly lately. Often, a series of positive results was followed by unexpected defeats. The best confirmation of that is the 0-1 defeat against regrettable Angers in the second week of April, as well as last week's failure, also with the same result, against Reims on the side.

While the chosen of Paulo Fonseca can boast of the fact that they have not lost at home since August 31 of last year, the situation on the side is far from positive, bearing in mind that Les Dogues celebrated on only two occasions of the last nine Ligue 1 appearances on the opponent's grounds, losing 0-1 to Reims last time.

Also, if we count the Ligue 1 clashes, we can see that Monaco have not lost to LOSC Lille at their "Stade Louis-II" for more than a decade (W4, D6). Well, when we add up and subtract everything, we come to the conclusion that the Princes are quite underestimated by the bookmakers here. The club from Fontvieille, who is chasing position number three, will not allow another failure this weekend, so the double chance excellent choice.

LOSC Lille team news

Centre-back Thiago Djalo will remain on the sidelines until the end of the current 2022/23 campaign due to a severe cruciate ligament injury that he sustained in early March in a match against RC Lens.

Apart from Les Dogues losing 0-1 to Angers late in April, they were without Gabriel Gudmundsson and Adam Ounas in the early stages due to injuries. The participation of this duo in Sunday is questionable.

The representative of Kosovo, Edon Zhegrova, is also doubtful for the match against Monaco. The right winger was forced to leave the field already in the 63rd minute due to an injury in the 0-1 loss against Reims.
