Two of the continents' lowest-ranked nations face off this week in an international warmup fixture ahead of UEFA qualifiers in the coming days.

Ranked 171st and 198th, respectively, in the FIFA rankings, Malta and Gibraltar are rated 52nd and 53rd of 55 European nations.

Given that proximity, we can expect a competitive and close encounter, with both nations keen to get up to speed ahead of Euro qualifiers against North Macedonia and Greece next week.

Malta should be the favourites for this match, though, with the hosts managing to win three of their last ten matches, including victories against higher-ranked opponents Israel and Luxembourg. In fact, the Maltese have even managed to score two goals in unbeaten matches against Israel (2:1) and Greece (2:2).

While Gibraltar have also struggled for wins in their short history, Wednesday´s visitors to the Ta'Qali National Stadium have managed to win two of their last six matches. They had failed to win any of their previous 23 matches over the previous two years.
