Last year was one of the best in Mainz's history. They hoped for a similar season, but the reality struck them hard as Bo Henriksen's team collected only five points in ten Bundesliga rounds. Luckily, it is still early in the season, and Mainz have enough time to get out of the relegation zone. Henriksen's team won only one of the last five matches in all competitions. In the previous game, they lost 1-0 on the road against Eintracht Frankfurt. The guests ended the match with an xG of 0.16, so Mainz was obviously far from picking up points. 

Bo Henriksen was the best Bundesliga head coach last season, but football is often ruthless, and it will not be surprising if he loses his job soon. Some German media reported that the board will give him a few more weeks, but change is inevitable if nothing changes soon. 

Mainz doesn't have big problems with injuries. Nadiem Amiri, Anthony Caci, and Maxim Dal should be the only ones unavailable on Friday against Hoffenheim. 

After barely escaping relegation, Hoffenheim looks like a completely different team in the current campaign, sitting within reach of the Champions League places. Christian Ilzer's team played well recently, winning four of the last five matches across all competitions. In the previous game before the international break, Hoffenheim won 3-1 at home against RB Leipzig. That was another match in which Ilzer's team punched above their weight this season.

Hoffenheim are playing great this season, and the head coach, Christian Ilzer, recently talked about his team's chances in the Bundesliga. He said, "You don't just win a game in the Bundesliga – everyone demands maximum effort. If we continue to stay united, everyone understands their role as important, and we play with a significant investment, then we can be the surprise team of the season in May."

Valentin Gendrey, Adam Hlozek, and Koki Machida are injured and will not play on Friday in Mainz.
