The Stadio Olimpico plays host to a huge occasion on Sunday with the latest instalment of the Derby della Capitale as Lazio takes on Roma.

Both sides were involved in midweek Europen action however, while Roma booked their safe passage to the Europa League quarter-finals, Lazio would suffer a disappointing Conference League elimination at the hands of AZ. 

Now, with everything still to play for in the race for Champions League qualifying places, a typically feisty Rome derby has to be expected, with just two points separating these great rivals ahead of Sunday´s sundown showdown.

Roma will certainly come into this fixture in a better mood, with their midweek European success only sweetened by Lazio´s failure to progress in the Conference League, a tournament won for the first time by Roma last season. 

However, Jose Mourinho´s side have struggled a little in away matches of late, with just one win in their last eight in all competitions. Yet, Lazio´s home form is little better, with Mauricio Sarri´s side winning just three of their last eight at the Olimpico.

A near impossible derby to predict the outcome, it is very much worth noting that no side has won back-to-back derby Della Capitale´s since Roma managed four successive wins between 2015 and 2016. Since then, Lazio have won six and lost five with three draws however, neither side could win successive matches during that period. With Lazio winning 1:0 in this season´s first meeting, one wonders whether Roma can continue the sequence mentioned above, given their superior confidence coming into this big showdown. 

Goals can usually be expected in this match, with just one of the last twenty meetings finishing goalless. Of those 19 games, 18 also saw at least two goals scored, but not their most recent meeting earlier this season.

Sitting third and fifth and separated by just two points, we expect another tight encounter but favour has to lie with Roma, who will surely look to rub it in following their rival's midweek European disappointments.
