- Competition: World Cup 2026 qualifiers
- Date: 15/11/2025
- KO: 19:45 GMT / 20:45 CET
- Venue: Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium
The Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium is the venue for a vital World Cup qualifier on Saturday evening as Greece takes on Scotland.
These nations have become familiar foes in 2025, meeting for the third time in eight months, with Scotland claiming victory in two of their previous three encounters, including a massive win at Hampden last month.
With direct qualification now beyond Greece, the hosts are fighting to stay alive through the Nations League route, while Scotland look to maintain their push for a first World Cup appearance since 1998 knowing a point will keep their hopes of topping the section alive.

Greece and Scotland have met on three previous occasions - all within the last eight months. Scotland claimed a 1:0 win on their last visit to Greece, while they also picked up a 3:1 win in their most recent meeting in Glasgow last month.
Greece team overview
Greece return to action on Saturday knowing their hopes of qualifying directly for the World Cup are over. Consecutive defeats against Scotland and Denmark last month left Ivan Jovanovic’s side seven points adrift of second place with only two games left to play.
Still, Greece remain in contention for a playoff spot through the UEFA Nations League route, which could yet keep their World Cup qualification dreams alive.
The Galanolefki have been surprisingly poor in the section, though, with three successive losses since a 5:1 win over Belarus on matchday one. Greece have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last six games and could struggle to match the enthusiasm of a Scots side bidding to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1998.
Jovanovic has named a 24-man squad for this weekend’s qualifier in Piraeus. West Ham defender Konstantinos Mavropanos is one of six players dropped from the last international window. Promising 17-year-old forward Konstantinos Karetsas is again included and could feature from the start.

Scotland team overview
Scotland travel to Greece full of belief after securing a World Cup playoff place with a dramatic 3:1 comeback win against the Greeks in Glasgow last month. Despite falling behind after more than an hour on the clock, three goals in the final 30 minutes flipped the script and kept Steve Clarke’s men in the hunt for top spot in Group C.
The Scots followed that remarkable victory with an underwhelming 2:1 success against Belarus, to move level on points with Denmark at the top of the section. Incredibly, the Scots were booed-off at Hampden despite securing a playoff position.
Clarke's side's resilience remains a trademark of their performances in the past year. Scotland have lost only once in their last nine competitive fixtures, a run that includes wins against Croatia, Poland and Greece as well as a draw against Portugal.
Head coach Clarke has a few selection issues heading into the weekend. Billy Gilmour and Lennon Miller are both injured, while Andy Irving and Connor Barron have been drafted in as late replacements. Veteran keeper Craig Gordon is expected to start, with Angus Gunn unavailable through injury.

Prediction
Scotland are likely to deploy a defensive, counter-attacking strategy as they look to secure the point they need to maintain their hopes of a final day showdown with Denmark.
With that in mind, I expect a tight contest, with fewer than three goals scored.
Three Reasons Why We Expect Under 2.5 Goals
- Scotland have seen under 2.5 goals in 3 of their last 5 matches (competitive fixtures)
- Scotland have seen under 2.5 goals in their last 3 away matches (competitive fixtures)
- Scotland are unbeaten in 8 of their last 9 matches (competitive fixtures)
Main prediction Greece - Scotland
Under 2.5 goals
