Greece will be confident of returning to winning form in the UEFA European Championship qualifiers when they take on minnows Gibraltar at OPAP Arena.

Still hoping to qualify for next summer´s European Championship in Germany, Greece fell to a disappointing 3:0 loss against qualification rivals Netherlands on Thursday. 

Now sitting with six points from four games after two wins and two losses, Greece sit level with the Dutch but have played one game more. France leads the group by a wide margin, having won all five of their qualifiers.

Returning to Athens, only a big win will satisfy the Greek support, and they should be expected to find it against a Gibraltar side that remains pointless and bottom of Group B.

Since their introduction to the international scene in 2014, Gibraltar have lost all 42 World Cup or European Championship qualification games. In 22 Euro qualifiers, the Iberian minnows have conceded 92 goals and scored only 5. 

On the road, Gibraltar have conceded at least 3 goals in 20 of 21 previous away qualifier losses, with an average of over 4.5 goals conceded per match.

While Greece are not usually the heaviest scorers, Gus Poyet´s side have improved in recent years. The hosts have won four of their last five games on home soil while they have lost just one of their last 17.

Considering those numbers, I´m confident Greece will at least cover a -2 handicap, with the visitors losing record sure to continue this weekend.
