Flamengo are serious contenders for the Brasileirao Betano title at the end of the season based on their performances in the first 11 league games. On Saturday, the league leaders will face Sao Paulo, who have struggled for much of the season and are currently just one point above the relegation zone.

The Brasileirao Betano leaders were involved in the FIFA Club World Cup for at least half a month and reached the round of 16, where they lost to Bayern Munich. In the domestic league, Flamengo defeated Fortaleza 5-0 in their last game before travelling to the FIFA Club World Cup.

São Paulo, on the other hand, had a three-week break after the FIFA Club World Cup kicked off in mid-June, which could have a double impact on their league form. Their last league game was more than three weeks ago, when they suffered a 3-1 defeat against Vasco da Gama.

Flamengo are currently flying high in the Brasileirão Betano and are top of the table with 24 points after 11 games. Before their elimination from the FIFA Club World Cup with a 4-2 defeat against Bayern, Flamengo were very successful in the league, winning three of their last four games. São Paulo, on the other hand, have done themselves no favours this season and are winless in the league in the last three games.

The fact that Flamengo have only just returned to Brazil after taking part in the FIFA Club World Cup could play a part on Saturday, but we still fancy Flamengo to win given their recent form in the league.
