An out-of-sorts Chelsea face another big Premier League test when they face Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Aston Villa arrives in London having suffered a shock 3:2 loss at Legia Warsaw in the Conference League on Thursday.

While the Villians have been in great form at Villa Park, on the road, Unai Emery´s side have now lost three of their first five away matches this season with a total of 11 goals conceded in defeats at Newcastle (5:1), Liverpool (3:0) and the aforementioned Legia. 

Still, Villa will take confidence both from Chelsea´s poor current form and last season's results, which saw them beat the Blues both at home and at Stamford Bridge. The Birmingham side have now lost just one of their last four away games against Chelsea.

However, since their 2:0 win in London in April, the Villains have failed to keep clean sheets in their next eight away PL games and again looked defensively fragile in their midweek loss in Poland.

Hosts Chelsea come into this game without a goal or win in their last two PL contests. After a 1:0 home loss against Nottingham Forest, Mauricio Poccehtino´s men were then held to a bore 0:0 draw at Bournemouth.

Struggling for goals and lacking a clear style of play, the Blues could be in for another long season despite a massive outlay on signings over the past year.

At the Bridge, the Blues have been dismal in 2023 with only three wins against Leeds, Palace, and Luton from 15 home Premier League games played since January. 

A tough one to call, Villa´s midweek slip-up is a concern, but should they bring their A-game, they will leave London with at least a point against a Chelsea side still struggling to create their own identity.
