Burton and Port Vale face each other in an FA Cup first round replay on Tuesday night after the two sides played a goalless draw at Vale Park earlier this month.

Having finished last season in the bottom nine in Football League One, Burton needed a strong start to the 2023-24 campaign but that wasn't the case. Dino Maamria's side failed to win their first eight games of the season in all competitions, suffering six defeats and two draws.

Between September and early October the Brewers hit their stride, going unbeaten in eight games in all competitions, but that form has since waned as the team have failed to win in their last five games.

The Brewers now face a Port Vale side who have also not had much to celebrate this season. Port Vale are currently five places behind the hosts in the table and enter Tuesday's game on the back of a run of five consecutive games without a win.

Burton vs Port Vale Betting Tips: Under 2.5 goals

Goals have been scarce for Burton in recent matches, as Dino Maamria's men have failed to score in three of their last four games. Three of those games have ended with less than 2.5 goals, which is the first reason to expect a close game.

Port Vale haven't had much fun scoring goals recently either. The visitors scored under 1.5 goals in each of their last eleven games in all competitions. Bets on the "under 2.5 goals" option were won in seven of the last nine games.

  • Best Tip: Under 2.5 goals
  • Burton vs Port Vale prediction: 1-0

Burton team news

Burton Albion did not suffer an injury in the defeat to Northampton Town in the league last time out, but manager Dino Maamria is expected to make a couple of changes to the side that started in that game.

Cole Stockton and Mason Bennett made only substitutes appearances in that game, so would be among those who could be promoted from the bench on Tuesday.

Port Vale team news

Port Vale will be without the services of Nathan Smith after the centre back saw a red card in the reverse fixture about two weeks ago.

The Englishman will be joined on the visitors' suspension list by Oliver Luke Arblaster, who was red carded for two bookable offences against Lincoln City, but head coach Andy Crosby has no injuries to report.
