2:0 up from their Champions League round of sixteen first-leg in Belgium, Benfica should be able to finish the job when they host Club Bruges at the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica.

Roger Schmidt's sides claimed a 2-0 advantage from the first leg, with defensive errors proving costly for the Belgians, who surprised many by topping their group section earlier this season.

Now needing a miraculous turnaround, Scott Parker´s side faces a mountainous task against a Benfica side that have won four of their last five home UCL matches. Requiring a two-goal win just to force extra time, Benfica have only lost by two goals or more on three occasions - against Bayern Munich (twice) and Liverpool since 2014.

With that in mind, it´s hard to see the hosts slipping up, and with Bruges unable to sit and defend, we expect Benfica to seal the deal with another victory. The Portuguese side have scored two goals or more in 11 of their last 14 home UCL matches since 2019, and with Bruges in poor away form, we expect a similar outcome on Tuesday.

Indeed, on their travels, Bruges have won just one of their last eight away league matches while conceding two or more in five of those games. Given that form, anything other than a Benfica win with at least two goals scored would be something of a surprise. 

Of course, Bruges did keep clean sheets in all three away Group stage matches, but given their need for goals, and their lack of form under Parker, we fancy Benfica to make light work of an opponent that tends to struggle on their travels.
