A tight contest can be expected in UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying on Thursday as Welsh outfit Bala Town take on Irish visitors Sligo Rovers at Park Hall Stadium.

While the hosts have been without competitive action since the end of April, Sligo arrives in Wales in the midst of their domestic campaign which sees the visitors currently 5th in the League of Ireland.

Unbeaten in their last 5, Sligo will be confident of returning home with a positive result considering their increased levels of fitness but Bala have been in good form prior to the end of their season, winning 7 and losing just 1 of their last 9 matches.

Both sides have had little experience of European football in recent years with both bowing out at the first round stage of the Conference League in 2021. Sligo, for their part, have not won a European tie since a 4:0 aggregate win against Lithuanians Banga Gargždai in 2015 while Bala have never won a two-legged European tie with their only success a 1:0 win over Maltese outfit Valetta in a one-off contest back in 2020.

Ultimately, there is little to separate these two sides on paper and we expect a tight contest in Wales. Of course, with Sligo perhaps in better shape physically, we expect the Irish side to have just enough to return home with a narrow first-leg advantage in what is likely to be a tight and low-scoring occasion at Park Hall Stadium.

Final score 0:1
