Atletico Madrid vs Villarreal prediction 12.11.2023

Since winning the La Liga title in the 2020/21 season, Atletico Madrid could not secure another title as they finished 3rd in the previous two seasons. This year, Colchoneros are doing well both in the league and the Champions League. In La Liga, they are 4th with six points behind the first-placed Girona, but with a game fewer and with a potential win here, they would significantly close the gap. In the Champions League, they are doing even better and are at the top of the group with eight points in four rounds.

Villarreal were mostly between the 5th and 7th place in La Liga in previous years, but this season did not start according to plan, at least in La Liga. The Yellow Submarine are 13th with only 12 points after 12 rounds - only five away from the relegation zone. Still, the last few games are a reason for optimism, considering they won three of the last four games. To be fair, those wins came against somewhat weaker teams, but it was still very important for them to build up some momentum after a poor start to the season. 

Atletico Madrid vs Villarreal pick: Over 2.5 goals

Atletico Madrid scored 26 goals in 11 rounds (2.4 per game) and are currently the team with the second-best offense in La Liga. At home, they have been simply incredible, winning all seven games with 22 scored goals. So far, they have scored three or more goals in five of those seven games, and in the remaining two, Colchoneros scored two per game! So, their offense is looking great at the moment, but defensively, even at home, they haven't been as good. In those seven games, they kept a clean sheet only once, vs. Celtic, when the Scotts received an early red card. Because of great offense and somewhat subpar defensive performances, Atletico Madrid were over 2.5 goals seven times at Metropolitano Stadium.

Lately, Villarreal almost exclusively played high-scoring games and were over 2.5 goals in the previous four games. They are in excellent goalscoring form, as they scored 12 goals during that four-game stretch.

In the previous four h2h games, we have seen three or more goals on three occasions. Considering the previous h2h games, a fantastic offensive display from Atletico Madrid at Metropolitano Stadium, and Villarreal's excellent goalscoring form, we expect an exciting match with at least three goals.
