Almeria waited seven years to return to the Spanish top-flight division. They succeeded in doing so in the 2021/22 season but barely secured survival the previous season, finishing 17th, just one point above the danger zone. This season, they once again look like one of the primary candidates for relegation. In the first five rounds, Almeria won just one point and currently sits at the bottom of the table.
Valencia went from a constant top-four team to being one of the teams battling for relegation. Last season was one of their worst, finishing 16th - just one point above Almeria and two points above the danger zone. The 2023/24 season started much better for them by winning nine points in five rounds.
Almeria vs Valencia pick: Both teams to score
Despite starting the season poorly with just one point in five rounds, Almeria rarely fails to score goals. The popular Rojiblancos were unable to score just once - in the first round vs Rayo Vallecano. But they deserved a goal in that match, too, as they had 60% ball possession and 1.49 xG. Almeria are generally a team that generates many goalscoring opportunities and, according to xG statistics, should score 1.51 goals per game in the first five matches. On the other hand, their defense have been terrible, allowing 11 goals. At the moment, they are one of the only three teams (along with Celta Vigo and Granada) that haven't had a clean sheet.
Valencia are coming off a huge 3:0 win over one of the best teams in Spain - Atletico Madrid. This season, they only once failed to score a goal in five rounds, so we feel they will most definitely score against a struggling Almeria. Also, on the road, Valencia have big problems with keeping their net intact. This season, they have zero clean sheets in two games vs Alaves and Sevilla, and last season, Valencia only had one in 19 rounds.
In the previous season, these teams played two h2h games, with both teams scoring in those matches. Additionally, we have seen both teams scoring over the last six h2h games.

Almeria team news
For the upcoming game, Almeria should have the entire squad available. The only player who is ruled out with an injury is Martin Svidersky, but he is not an essential part of the team.
After a 2:1 loss to Villarreal, coach Vicente Moreno spoke to the media. He was disappointed with the result but said they created many goalscoring chances and had twice as many shots on the goal as Villarreal. "We have had chances to win, but this is about getting it right, and we are not having that success. The First Division teams penalize mistakes," the coach added.

Valencia team news
A starting central defender in the first three games this season, Gabriel Paulista, missed the previous two matches with a muscle injury and will most likely be out until early October. With him out, Cristhian Mosquera should start at the back with Mouctar Diakhaby.
A backup right full-back, Dimitri Foulquier, could also miss the Almeria game with a muscle injury. For now, he is listed as questionable. Also, a backup striker, Alberto Mari, is ruled out with a thigh injury.
In one of his recent interviews, coach Ruben Baraja spoke about this season's goals. He said they have to be honest about themselves and acknowledge their situation. He also said he is aware the fans want the Champions League, but, according to him, that is completely unreal. "The minimum objective is to try to keep Valencia in the Primera Division. From there, we don't give up anything. We want to improve and make the team grow," the coach added.
