Croatia and Sweden collide in Zagreb this weekend, hoping to earn their first points in an ultra-competitive Nations League group.

Losing successive games to Portugal and France isn't a disgrace, but both know they can't afford to drop more points here. After all, one will be confined to relegation once this season's competition is concluded before Christmas.

Time is finite – neither wants to be greeted by the drop zone and the prospect of playing against weaker opposition in 2021. Read my match preview, for the correct score predictions and best betting tips ahead of this fixture.

Croatia vs Sweden Betting Tips

Having conceded eight goals in two Nations League games against France and Portugal last month, Croatia returned to winning ways with a 2-1 away win over Switzerland on Wednesday. It wasn't easy either – Josip Brekalo and Mario Pasalic sealed a turnaround result after Mario Gavranovic's opener on the half-hour mark.

The pair had impressed for Wolfsburg and Atalanta respectively last weekend before the break, so it's not a surprise.

Zlatko Dalic chose a rotated side, with Inter duo Marcelo Brozovic and Ivan Perisic, alongside Real Madrid's Luka Modric all second-half substitutes.

It's likely some from the trio start this weekend, alongside Zenit centre-back Dejan Lovren and CSKA Moscow's Nikola Vlasic – both unused. That emphasises their strength in depth, entertaining a Sweden side steadily rebuilding their reputation with no star to carry them.

That may sound harsh on the surface, but when you have someone as influential as Milan's Zlatan Ibrahimovic leading the line for 15 years, they need a new bonafide matchwinner. RB Leipzig's Emil Forsberg and Real Sociedad forward Alexander Isak? Too inconsistent. Juventus winger Dejan Kulusevski could be one to watch, however.

Croatia vs Sweden Correct Score Predictions

In three previous H2H encounters, Croatia edge their Scandinavian opponents 2-1 overall but the last clash was a friendly in February 2012 – one they lost 3-1 at home.

Ibrahimovic was involved in all three goals that evening, but the charismatic forward hasn't featured internationally since Euro 2016. Dalic's hoping they avoid history repeating itself on Sunday, though stranger things have happened.
