The 2020-21 UEFA Europa League qualification rounds continue this week, when Hungary’s Budapest Honved host Finland’s Inter Turku tomorrow evening. Both sides will be eager to improve after being eliminated in the qualifying rounds last year, but that’s an unenviable task.

Despite finishing fifth in the 2019-20 campaign, Honved qualified for Europe after clinching domestic cup success in June. Turku finished second in the Veikkausliiga’s 2019 edition, five points adrift of eventual champions KuPS – missing out on a Champions League berth.

After finishing their top-flight campaign with three defeats from their last four matches in June, Budapest Honved made their return last Friday. Long story short: they lost, again. After some inconsistent pre-season friendly results (W1, D1, L2), head coach Tamas Bodog has clearly inherited a squad needing work this season.

Daniel Gazdag, who made his Hungary debut eleven months ago, scored their only goal in a 3-1 away defeat by MTK Budapest. The manner in which they conceded those three goals were worrying to say the least: sloppy ball-watching was punished, and two strikes directly from corners!

If you haven’t watched the goals, you should. They’ll certainly make you think twice before predicting a home win here – even with fans in attendance. They’ll need to remain concentrated throughout and defend better against Inter Turku – who lead Finland’s top-tier after 12 matches this term.

Budapest Honved vs Inter Turku Correct Score Predictions

Turku lost at this stage of last year’s competition, with a 4-3 aggregate deficit by Danish side Brondby IF. They’ll be keen to avoid replicating the same result here in a winnable one-legged tie against a Honved side who have been inconsistent since June.

They too failed to reach the Europa League group stages last term and it’s unlikely they will in 2020-21.
